Porsche 928 - Groundbreaking Prowess Never Wanes

porsche
Shane Morgay asked:

Porsche 928, which was named ‘land shark’ due to its ability to eat up the road in less time, is enjoying the limelight as it gets favorable attention from car fanatics of today’s time. Aficionados are still flabbergasted by the fastest car in the whole world. Its long existence and rocketing sales are just few of the reasons why Porsche 928 is said to be hotter than before.
Porsche has pioneered lots of technical features in vehicles. Moreover, said features were incorporated in its flagship deluxe coupe. Designed in the year 1971 to eventually replace 911, Porsche 928 was finally released to the public in 1977 at the Geneva Motor Show. Said car was named “International Car of the Year”. The car’s design was based on the transaxle principle where the engine was placed in front of the car and the gearbox. The extensive testing and experimentation resulted in a car with superb standards in steering, brakes, and suspension.
The car was a front-engined, water-cooled, 4.5 Litre V8 with a rear transaxle. It also has ABS, 2+2 seats, air-conditioning system, polyurethane bumpers, bigger luggage space, and other extras. The production of Porsche 928 comes in 5 series - the 928, 928 S, 928 S4, 928 GT and finally 928 GTS.
In the process, said car went through significant changes. Its shaped was smoothened to augment its aerodynamics. Flush tail lights and new wing were also incorporated in the car to yield better look and performance. To perfect the car, luxurious accessories for a Porsche were added.
When it comes to performance, Porsche 928 has a great weight distribution and a new powerful V8 to do better than other Porches. It is fast, sporty, fun and convenient to drive. Nonetheless, since Porsche 928 is considered a hot car, expect it to be delivered in a hefty price. The model is the most expensive car of Porsche in the market these days.

what is the maintenance cost of a newly leased Porsche in Canada?

porsche
MJMD asked:

I want to know what is the real cost of ownership of a Porsche in Canada. I am thinking of a 911 C4/C4S. How often do you have problems that need to be fixed in the dealership? (ie how reliable is the quality?)

The Excitement of Driving a Porsche 911 Turbo

porsche
Joe Bella asked:

In 2006, Dr. Ing. H.c. Porsche will extend it’s current product line with the addition of a new 911 Turbo, the sixth generation of the 911 series. This top-of-the-range model will have its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show on February 28, 2006 and as from June 24, 2006 it will be available in German dealerships.

The 911 Turbo (type 997) has a few improvements. It has an output of 480 bhp at 6,000 rpm, a 3.6 litre engine, a rated torque of 620 Nm and a maximum torque available between 1,950 and 5,000 rpm. All these numbers are translated into driving performance, as the 911 Turbo with six-speed manual transmission only needs 3.9 seconds to get from zero to 100 km/h. The coupe reaches 200 km/h in 12.8 seconds. Despite these performance statistics, Porsche developers succeeded to keep the average consumption to 12.8 liters per100 km.

For those who need even more speed, the 911 Turbo offers the optionally Tiptronic S automatic transmission. This way, it can reach 100 km/h from a standing start in just 3.7 seconds and 200 km/h in a mere 12.2 seconds. Both manual and automatic transmissions have a top speed of 310 km/k. Available for the first time, the optional “Sport Chrono Package Turbo” enhances the vehicle’s flexibility even further.
The Porsche 911 Turbo features a redesigned all-wheel drive with an electronically controlled multi-disc clutch. The result will be the transfer of the available power to the road. That’s because, depending on the driving conditions, this system will determine the optimal torque distribution to ensure the best-possible drive. Also, Porsche Traction Management (PTM) ensures variable power distribution to the two driven axles. This means that on the road the 911Turbo will prove outstanding traction in the rain or snow, high agility on narrow country roads and optimal active safety even at high speeds.
The new 911 Turbo’s driving performance is duly tempered by its brake system, which comprises monobloc fixed-caliper disc brakes with six pistons at the front axle and four at the rear. The diameter of the internally ventilated and perforated brake discs at the front and rear wheels is 350 millimeters. An optimized ceramic brake system that Porsche offers is Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB). This high-tech system reduces with 17 kilograms the standard brake system and provides an excellent fading stability.
The major bodywork change of the 911 Turbo is the modified front end with its distinctive, tautly drawn cooling air inlets. Combined with the standard oval bi-xenon headlights, it will define the new unmistakable image. From the rear perspective too, the Turbo will seem more powerful. This is due first and foremost to its tail end, 22 millimeters wider than that of the previous model, to which the redesigned wing spoiler element has been aligned.
Secondly, the lateral air inlets behind the doors have been redrawn and now they offer a more efficient supply of cooling air to the charge-air intercoolers.
The basic price for the 911 Turbo is 115,000 Euros. In the USA, from July 8, 2006, the vehicle will be available at $122,000 (not including taxes).

Porsche Succeeds Again

porsche
Zeke Gervis asked:

For the second time, the Manthey Racing team succeeded again as it won the 24 hour endurance race on the Nürburgring. Porsche drivers Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb along with Marcel Tiemann bested more than 200 racers with a one-lap advantage. The team players were driving their new Porsche 911 GT3 RSR that is well equipped with high performing parts like Porsche oxygen sensor.

In front of a crowd with 210,000 spectators, the success at the 35th edition of the long distance classic records the eighth victory for a Porsche. Run by Land Motorsport, the 911 GT3 RSR was in the third place behind the Dodge Viper of Zakspeed Racing.

After beginning from pole, the four Manthey Racing drivers set the speed right from the start. The weather condition was extremely challenging due to the combination of heat, rain and fog. But this did not hinder the team from winning. Bernhard, Dumas, Lieb and Tiemann were still in perfect driving condition. The Porsche 911 GT3 RSR that was developed and built in Weissach also finished its maiden race at the Nürburgring 24 hour endurance race without incurring any technical problems or flaws.

Hartmut Kristen, the pleased head of racing, said that the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR once again confirmed its potential because of its undeniable winning. He largely complements the efforts exerted by the Manthey Racing team who did a nice work. He commented that the four drivers turned quick laps at exactly the appropriate time. He further said that the team drivers were cautious just when the situation warranted it and this hugely contributed to the team’s winning again. He was very pleased that their drivers exuded characteristics of a great long distance pilot. He added that the Nürburgring means a lot to Porsche and that was because of all the Porsche teams who once again put the racing team one step higher.

Olaf Manthey, the team principal could hardly believe his fortune. According to him, before, he had first to wait for a really very long time to get what for him is the most important race all over the world. But now, their team won for the second consecutive year from pole position. He perceives the current victory as a wonderful gift for him as well as for his wife Renate for their silver wedding anniversary this weekend.

The story of the 2007 marathon will be marked in history as one of the most unusual races. The Eifel classic had to be delayed by almost two hours due to the anguishing rain fall. At 4:51 in the afternoon, the heavy rain stopped and so the race started. Then, at 3:54 in the morning, thick fog hindered the race. In effect, the race management was obliged to interrupt the event for about five-and-a-half hours. So the restart took place at 9:31 in the morning.

After the race, Timo Bernhard said that winning the Nürburgring 24 hour endurance race in two consecutive years is ‘a dream come true’. According to him, they managed to find a good set-up for the oddities of the Nordschleife in the Long Distance Championship. He was so grateful with the cooperation of the new 911 GT3 RSR that had not experience any problem, even a single or minor one, over the 24 hours.

Romain Dumas reacted that the event was amazing. He was particularly amazed by the fact that he have been racing on the Nordschleife for the third time now and he won the recent and one of the most important races around the world. He said that the track was one-of-a-kind and the unpredictable weather condition put a lot of pressure on them. He added that of his many experiences in the race, he would never forget his drive in thick fog during the night.

Marc Lieb was also definitely proud to have won the greatest race in Germany. He said that he secured class victory at the 24 hour events in Daytona and Le Mans and an overall victory at Spa. He considers the team’s success in the Nürburgring a very special one.

This was also Marcel Tiemann’s third time to hold the winners’ trophy on the podium of this 24 hour endurance race. He said that reliability and fast car are the requirements in winning the race. He complements the entire team for a job well done last weekend.
