Whats the real cost of owning a porsche boxster?

porsche
philip l asked:

I was thinking of getting a 1998/9 porsche boxster at the end of the year for about 10k ($20k), ignoring the petrol prices and the 17mpg, how much will it actually cost me per year, things like servicing, repairs etc.

Thanks for any help

The First True Production Model Porsche - The Porsche 356

porsche
Gregg Hall asked:

Even though the Porsche 64 is considered by many to be the first car produced by the company it was really only a test car and was never built as a production automobile, in fact only three were built. The 364 was built by Ferdinand and Ferry Porsche after design by Erwin Komenda, while getting its engine modeled after the VW Beetle.
The 356 was offered in the beginning as a coupe, a cabriolet, and a roadster and before being taken off the market in 1965 it underwent several modifications. The models that were the most wanted were the Super 90, the Speedster, and the 356 Carrera which often fetches over $150,000 now. The original selling price for a Porsche in the latter 1950’s was only $4,000.
Max Hoffman was the only Porsche importer in the United States back then and wanted a lower priced, speedy version to market to Americans. So in 1954 the company manufactured the 356 Speedster with a removable windshield, bucket seats, and a very basic folding top. The Speedster production peaked at 1,171 cars in 1957 and was replaced in 1959 by the Convertible model D which featured a taller and more practical windshield as well as more comfortable seating.
The original 356 was featured in many Hollywood films and now brings over $100,000 at auto specialty auctions and through private dealers, if you are lucky enough to find one.
Even though minor modifications were made to it, the basic shape of the Porsche 356 stayed unchanged and its signature look was easily distinguished from others. The coupe and cabriolet editions were made each year until 1965 but the last 356 Roadster was made two years earlier.
In 1964 when Porsche introduced the popular 911, 356 vehicle production was at 14,151 and the company offered the 356 through 1965 as a lower cost alternative to the more pricey 911 which was twice that of the 356. Due to the complaining of customers that the price of the 911 was too high the company came out with the 912 which featured the cheaper engine of the 356 and it was sold until 1969.
Currently the Porsche 356 is a desirable and respected collector classic and was named on the top 10 list of the best sports cars of the 1960’s by Sports Car International. Today thousands of Porsche 356 owners carry on the tradition with well preserved vehicles that are driven on a regular basis.

Does a Porsche bought in Dubai have a problem if brought to Europe ?

porsche
strikxxer asked:

Hi, I’m getting conflicting information from the Porsche garage here in Dubai. One salesman tells me that due to fuel grade differences between Dubai and Europe, I will have to modify the fuel pump when I return with the car to Europe (cost 4k euros), and another is saying that no modification is necessary.
Thoughts anyone ?

Porsche Panamera to Have Body Shells From Volkswagen

porsche
Rain Stockton asked:

According to a Porsche company update to shareholders, the company is planning to collaborate with Volkswagen on the Panamera. Accordingly, the painted body shells for the four-door coupe will be supplied by the Volkswagen Hannover facility.

Porsche’s well known Zuffenhausen plant will be supplying the engines.

According to a statement, the Panamera is the new addition to Porsche’s lineup in which the company hopes to widen its customer basis further and step up market penetration in order to safely assure long-term growth.

But at what cost to the brand?

From the company’s Leipzig plant, the Panamera is set for a large-scale production for the 2009 market. The Porsche said in a statement that it is remaking its Leipzig plant with a new production facility costing the amount $206 million and 600 new jobs.

Admittedly, the actual Panamera concept which is shown in the spy photos courtesy of cardomain.com does look better than the Porsche 928 GT it’s based upon, but it still seems like a Porsche sedan.

Although Porsche have toyed with the idea of a sedan for more than 50 years, the company has never produced a sedan. It might seem desecration for Porsche to deviate from its purebred sports cars like the 911, Boxster and Cayman, but this is all “again all over again”. Before the end of 2002, Porsche released the Cayenne, a still-controversial SUV that has seen considerable success.

From the spy shots of the Panamera, it clearly follows Porsche’s sweeping, contoured design philosophy. It is basically more of a four-door coupe than a traditional sedan. Somewhat to the Cayenne and Cayman is the rear, where the Panamera will feature a hatchback-style vent similar to the Cayman. The spy photographer suspects that under the hood is a lineup similar to the Cayenne’s: a V6 and two V8s, ranging from a little under 300 horsepower to at least 500 in the top turbo version. But rumors are heard on Porsche’s mounting of the engines as far back as possible in order to keep the center of gravity in the center. And expect wider availability of the 6-speed manual transmission than in the Cayenne, too.

The Panamera is expected to provide excellent competition for the Maserati Quattroporte, Mercedes CLS, and BMW and Volkswagen’s upcoming four-door coupes.

About Porsche

Porsche believes in the principle that is based on values and philosophies that together create the company’s added value. Maker of quality Porsche 928 parts, this German sport car manufacturer also offers services in consultancy, engineering, supplying and financing.

What Needs to be Considered When I Sell My Porsche

porsche
Ruby Stone asked:

It was about 2 months back that I finally made the tough call; I had to sell my Porsche. It’s a lovely car and I’m more attached to my Porsche then anything else, but the credit crunch was hitting my wallet in several ways, and cutbacks in my expenditure were called for. It was not an overnight decision, and despite serious efforts I could do nothing about the monetary mismatch. The only solution was to sell my Porsche, which was my most expensive overhead.
As I picked up the telephone to contact a dealer to sell my Porsche, I changed my mind because I really didn’t want to let her go. So I sat down and relooked at the costs associated with having my Porsche. I was hoping that something had changed overnight. The list began with the borrowing cost. A Porsche is not ‘just another car’ and this special tag comes with a cost. I had taken out a substantial loan to buy her, which amounted to sizeable interest charges every month. The next column was easy to figure out, it was the insurance fee, and it was rather steep as well. The third category in the list was the taxes, followed by the maintenance charges. While half of the maintenance costs were planned and reported in the car owner’s manual, there were also the unexpected maintenance costs, and they could be very expensive. Last but not least was the depreciation cost. As I relooked at the figures they confirmed my decision; I had to sell my Porsche.
The next task was to find the right way to sell my Porsche. I was going to pick up the phone and contact a car dealer, but I decided to research the subject, to ensure I got the best possible deal. It took me a little time, but it was worth it. I started my research by speaking to friends, and then followed it up by looking on the internet. The research results were, to sell my Porsche to a car dealer who specialises in buying prestige cars. I was informed the company will buy the car directly from me, and they make the whole transaction really painless.
Before I sold my Porsche I was advised by my friends to take some simple steps, which could mean a higher return on my car. The overall idea behind the prep work was to convey that my Porsche has really been special to me, and that I’d gone to great pains to ensure my vehicle was in excellent condition. Firstly I cleaned my car, both inside and outside, because it is important to make a good first impression. Cleaning the car also meant I checked every nook and cranny to remove all my personal items. The engine was another section, which would be under scrutiny and chances are, would not be clean. Therefore I made a point to include it in the cleaning exercise. I then ensured all the paperwork for my car was up to date and included all the maintenance records, such as the oil changes were listed, that the MOT was valid, and the Road Tax was in date.
When I was doing my research I learnt some important lessons and I’d like to make a cautionary statement for those contemplating the self-sell process. Neither the websites nor the print advertising associates will offer the greatest help when it comes to selling such a beautiful machine as a Porsche. Whereas, with a company that specialises in buying prestige cars, they know exactly what they are talking about, and will make it pleasure to sell my Porsche to them.

Which is the best Porsche from the 60s or 70s to buy as a collectible?

porsche
baseball g asked:

I might be coming into $25k-$35k this year and have always wanted a Porsche, I’d like to get something vintage from the 1960s or early 1970s that I could maintain forever. What model should I target in that price range? If I need to sink a few grand into it’s restoration over time that’s fine, I don’t want a total fixer upper but realize this isn’t a huge budget for these kinds of cars.

Put More Miles Into your Car With the Milestones of Porsche

porsche
Kimberly Baker asked:

Porsche is one of the world’s biggest car manufacturers—hands down. But the debate enters when one says that a Porsche is the best car in the world. Of course fans of other brands would argue, claiming that their cars are the best…but none compares to the milestones that Porsche embedded on the road.

Since its early beginning, the would-be famous father of cars Ferdinand Porsche created remarkable firsts in the car industry, and in the world. It was in the 1900’s when he created the Lohner-Porsche electric car at the World Fair in Paris. The wheel hub engines of the young engineer brought him international attention. Within the same year, he had created the world’s first-ever hybrid petrol/electric vehicle, at the same time developing all-wheel drive race cars. At this rate, Porsche has made a remarkable advancement for its name. Soon after, Porsche began to create ingenious Grand Prix race cars and different variations of different, innovative sports cars.

The more than 100 years that Porsche dedicated to creating cars that take on a really smooth journey has developed to the creation of sublime car parts as well. One of the important processes that takes place in a car is the process of the cooling system. Chemical energy has to be turned into mechanical power, and Porsche understands that. Most of the energy in the gasoline is converted into heat, so therefore, it is the important task of the cooling system to take care of that heat. No worries about a Porsche overheating, when it careens down the freeway all the driver has to think about is the road-and how lucky he is to be in a Porsche. One major factor that contributes to this are the Porsche Radiators.

The Porsche Radiators is a heat exchanging device designed to transfer heat from the hot coolant that runs through it to the air and blown through it by the cooling fan. As the car moves, the radiator’s façade is also cooled by the outside air coming from the grille. Sometimes, a collapsed lower radiator hose or a defective radiator cap causes overheating. So it is very important that when doing a radiator maintenance, also check the two radiator components. A simple preventive maintenance does a lot for the Porsche Radiators to fulfill its task flawlessly. Having the Porsche Radiators flushed periodically as well as having the components of a car’s cooling system changed when one part needs replacing can help a lot in ensuring the car’s peak-level performance. The Porsche radiators are indeed made only by the best and finest material from the world’s finest car maker.

The world’s finest race cars hail from Porsche, with a lot of competitions and endurance race titles under its belt. For every decade that Porsche saw through, it made one cornerstone in the history of automobiles after another. Indeed, the milestones that the name Porsche has made is much of an accomplishment that other cars will never be able to surpass, even if they tried.
