My convertible Porsche has roof leaks, has this happened to anyone else with a soft top?

porsche
qwefty23 asked:

I own a Porsche 911 2004, model 996. It is a convertible, and I have not been having problems with the roof until I got a hard top put on it, which leaked constantly, so I took I got it taken off. However, now even the soft top leaks, especially when I wash the car, or there is rain. Does anyone know people who have this problem with their convertible, and any solutions? Does anyone have this same problem? Thank you so much!

Porsche Design,especially Designed for You!

porsche
Perfect Choice to Make asked:

Although the brand of Porsche Design originates from Porsche family, father of Porsche sports car, it dose not has a close and clear relationship with Porsche cars.
In 1973,F.A Porsche brought a new era to the watch field with a black time stopwatch, and then he made successive  innovations in titanium metal and watches’exterior design.      Even the year of 1973 found Porsche’s production of the first compass wristwatch with  the help of IWC. And during the 20 years of later cooperation, Porsche established a prestigious brand image with the help of that of IWC’s, while IWC exploited its sportswatch market, through which they both set solid foundation for their glorious accomplishment.      In 1995, F.A.Porsche took over Eterna watch factory and began to run it by himself.
Ernst F.Seyr’s aim was to produce a machine time stopwatch for user to easily read the time.He first invited Paul Gerber as the technical consultant, who once invented bell time stopwatch for Fortis, and who at that time was  a member of Horological Academy of Independant Creators(AHCI),then he particularly extended his factory and recruitied more workers.
At the end of 2001, Eterna officially took over the latter blueprint’s design and modification, and began a programme to produce his archetypal watch, which got 12 experienced watchmaking masters, designers and CNC engineers involved. The breathtaking Indicator did not come out before 2004.     In the year of 2003,Porsche Company became a major shareholder of Porsche Design Company, and a new Group—-PLH was set in Bitgenma Sea???Becingen.
By October, the new group has already integrated Porsche’s business in luxury accessories and patents, and the promotion on all brands except for auto manufacture.     Porsche Design belongs in PLH, whose major management is in the 12-staff Porsche Design Office  on the lake bank ,Zell and the Selection area, and it covers Porsche Company accessory ,costume, and sports device(like Porsche bicycle).     65% of the stocks belongs to Porsche Company, the other 35% to Porsche family, which shows us the tendency that Porsche Design will return to Porsche.

Porsche Unveils 2008 Cayenne at the 2007 Detroit Auto Show

porsche
Correy Putton asked:

Porsche is such an amazing company that manages to earn great profit out from their small line of expensive cars and aside from the fact that their sports cars continue to be among the top selling models in the market. Porsche’s first-generation Cayenne has been one the company’s successful models and that is even before the debut of the 2008 Cayenne at the Detroit Auto Show.

The 2008 Cayenne range contains little changes but is equipped with top-of-the-line Porsche parts which simply show that Stuttgart’s designers are more concerned with quality and not so much into dramatic restyling. The 2008 Cayenne has an overall shape that is aggressive and slightly refreshed but can be instantly recognized as a Porsche Cayenne. The visible changes are seen up front, where the headlights are given a sharper design while the air intakes are enlarged.

The $94k Cayenne Turbo model which is a top-of-the-line model gets the LED light cluster-bars from the 911 Turbo which according to Porsche will remain a distinctive design feature that will differentiate turbo models across the range. The said features are said to be much better, design-wise than the huge ducts and vents on the ongoing Cayenne Turbo which differentiates it from the base Cayenne and Cayenne S.

Facts on the Porsche Cayenne

The Porsche Cayenne is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured by the German automaker Porsche since 2002. It is also the first V8-engined vehicle produced by Porsche since 1995– the same year when Porsche 928 was discontinued. The sales of the Cayenne as of June 2005 has reached 100,000 - considered to be the one of Porsche’s best selling vehicle in the North America and covered 40% of Cayenne’s total North American sales. However by 2006 the sales of Cayenne declined.

The design of the Cayenne was developed in partnership with Volkswagen which at the time was looking for a sports utility vehicle to add to their lineup. Volkswagen has shared its E chassis to boost their Touareg sports utility vehicle. The Cayenne shares only its base engine with the Touareg while Porsche’s version is substantially modified. At present there are four engines available in the Cayenne and these are as follows:

• 3.2 L 240 PS (237 hp/177 kW) VR6 from Volkswagen (Based on the unit offered in the VW but with modifications made to the intake, exhaust, timing systems and head)

• 4.5 L 340 PS (335 hp/250 kW) V8 (S)

• 4.5 L 450 hp (340 kW) 460 ft•lbf (624 N•m) twin-turbocharged V8 (Turbo)

• 4.5 L 500 hp (370 kW) 515 ft•lbf (698 N•m) T equipment twin-turbocharged V8

• 4.5 L 521 hp (389 kW) 531 ft•lbf (720 N•m) twin-turbocharged V8 (Turbo S)

The Sexy Second Generation 2005 Porsche Boxter

porsche
Gregg Hall asked:

The Porsche Boxter was first released in 1996 and has been overwhelmingly popular since. By 1998 the demand was so great that production in Zuffenhusen was not keeping up so Porsche signed a contract with a Finnish factory called Valmet. The contract was to only be for two years since it was thought that by that time the plant in Zuffenhausen would be able to handle the workload, that hasn’t happened and as a matter of fact the majority of Boxters headed to North America are built in the Finnish plant.
It is now not even possible to guarantee that you get a Stuttgart built car because even the vehicles designated for Tourist Delivery are sometimes coming from Valmet.
The popularity of the Boxter shows no signs of waning and if anything the introduction of the new second generation model of 2005 will only increase popularity even more. The Boxter and the Boxter S are super fast and powerful and are by the estimation of many, the best handling mass production sports cars in the world.
They have hardly changed in nearly 10 years aside from minor tweaks to increase horsepower and adding to interior options. This strategy keeps the Porsche tradition of maintaining the look of a successful model for long periods of time which is totally opposed to American car manufacturers’ philosophy where they change vehicle designs as often as every three years.
Like its precedent first offered in 1996, the second generation Boxster is a mid-engine, six-cylinder two-seater that resembles the Porsche Spyder and yet the majority of Boxster‘s construction and electronics are taken from the 911 Carrera. The 2005 Boxter has increased horsepower by 15 and its performance in acceleration and top speed is just about identical to the expensive 911 Carrera.
The base transmission offered is a 5 speed manual but a six speed is optional as is the availability of the 5-speed Porsche designed Tiptronic automatic transmission.
The overall look of the exterior of the Boxter is not overly decorative or ornate but sexy and the interior has been improved a good deal due to the earlier versions being considered too Spartan or cheap looking. The seats in the second generation are supportive and body conforming which not only makes them look good but increases comfort as well.
One of The Boxster‘s features that I like best, being in Florida, is the powered convertible top, which is very fast and easy to retract or put up. In the 2005 Boxster, the top can even operate while driving up to 30 mph, which is an added plus if you are caught in a sudden shower. The triple-layer padded cloth tops with a heated-glass rear window is as weather-tight and offers as much quiet as most fully enclosed metal roofs.
Porsche continues to prolong their tradition of building quality sports cars with the second generation Porsche Boxter.

What brand offers better performance: Porsche or Ferrari?

porsche
Sir Lucius asked:

I’m trying to figure out if a Porsche 911 GT2 could beat a Ferrari F430 or a 360 Modena in a straight line race.

Can a Porsche 911 GT3 beat a Ferrari 612, 599 GTB, or FXX in a straight line race?

Reminiscing \’porsche Pete\’

porsche
Rain Stockton asked:

He was known simply as “Porsche Pete”, a character created on a website intended for Porsche automobiles specifically the Boxster. The man behind it was Charles “Chuck” Hammersmith of Burlington.

In July 1, Hammersmith died at the age of 53. He pioneered the PPBB.com Web site, or Porsche Pete’s Boxster Board, one of the first Internet message boards on the subject, and the most active devoted to the Boxster, Porsche’s best-selling car. The website might also have an insight on Porsche 944 parts.

While Hammersmith had been charmed by Boxsters since before he could drive, friends from his message board say that the car particularly interested him because it was the first Porsche made available to a wider audience. Before his first Boxster, the fanatic owned three 911s.

Porsche fans organized the Blue Ridge Boxster Summit in Blowing Rock, where PPBB.com users have met for the last nine years. That’s because of Hammersmith’s site.

Karl Folkens, a South Carolina resident and PPBB.com administrator, said that the biggest thrill for many who attended the first and subsequent summits, was meeting “Porsche Pete” in person. He continued that one got the sense he’s a pistol-pulling kind of guy form the website, but in person one would find he’s very mild mannered.

Kim, Hammersmith’s daughter, said that her dad was never the spotlight dominant, and would have been surprised by all the appreciation he received since his death began to spread. Thousands of posts are on the Web site, highlighting Hammersmith through memories and photos.

Kim, who has an appreciation for Porsche herself and toured a factory while visiting Germany a few years ago, continued they didn’t realize how big an impact the site made for the past 10 years. The daughter added her dad never really wanted to take credit for anything he did.

Hammersmith wasn’t able to make it to the 9th annual gathering last month, where Boxster friends spent four days driving along the 400-mile Blue Ridge Parkway’s winding mountain roads.

Gordon Mckeehan, parts manager at Porsche dealer Suncoast Motorsports, said the honor was his and the other employees, to sell Hamersmith his last Boxster in 2003.

Cecil Thorpe, one of the site’s administrators said that since the opening of the website, Porsche owners and other self-designated “car geeks” have posted millions of messages on the message board.

Thorpe said the discussions on the board are monitored by Porsche’s corporate headquarters to learn what owners like and don’t like about the vehicle.

The loss was especially difficult for Robert Granger, Hammersmith’s co-host from Texas.

In an email, Granger implied that Chuck’s philosophy has always been really so special.

Aside from meeting Hammersmith at Boxster gatherings, Granger had met Hammersmith’s daughters, and was especially amazed by the father’s love for them. He said that other than a true Boxster fanatic, Chuck’s real pride and joy were his two girls, Kim and Sarah. He added Chuck never missed a chance to brag on them.

Porsche 911 Gt3 – is This the Ultimate in Extreme Road Racing

porsche
Scott James asked:

The Porsche 911 GT3 has been described as brilliance to spare, the problem is with a machine of this capability is thatl there isn’t anywhere within the United Kingdom road network that you would be able to legitimately take advantage of its raw unsurpassed power.

Consider the following, this car can comfortably hit 114 mph in third gear and not break sweat. Its performance is brutal with 415bhp pushing 1375kg this is a car waiting to explode out on to the roads. This car has possibly one of the most powerful accelerations off any road machine available.

Start to push this car and there is no forced induction to bolster the mid- range. OK the gearing is a little different from standard 911’s but it is the apparent ease with which it basically blows other supposedly fast cars off the road whilst still only in third gear that is possibly the most impressive of all of its features.

Accelerating in third gear (god I sound like an obsessive) in the 911 GT3 has memorably been described as “impersonating a leopard undergoing root canal treatment with a poorly administered anaesthetic” and you will hit comfortably 114mph and then you realise that there are three other gears to follow until technically (because we all know that it is not legally possible within the UK) you hit what Porsche claims is the 911’s top speed of 192 mph.

At this point the scenery flashing past the car starts to blur and you realize that the problem with trying to get to grips with this car is the fact that the conventional road network within the United Kingdom cannot cope.

Unless you are either given solitary access to an F1 circuit like Silverstone or Brands Hatch you are not even going to be able to come close to appreciating what this beast can do and even then it takes real experience to be able to master this car at speed. Any fool can hit the accelerator and go. Staying alive to tell the tale, now that requires experience.

If we sum up the 911 GT3 RS, it is going to set you back at least £94.280 (or $192,000) and for that you get a car that will go from 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and supposedly tops out at 192 mph though other testers have claimed even in excess of that figure. The engine exerts 409bhp at 7600rpm and has torque of over 298lb ft at 5500 rpm. It has a Power to Weight ratio of 298bhp per tonne.

Funnily enough for car of this power, driving around conventional roads it’s not actually too much of a problem, in fact in fact it makes the act of restraint quite a virtue that is key to enjoying the suppressed power that lies within. Self preservation and common sense quickly remind you that this is not a car whereby you hammer your way through the gears trying to impress the boy racer in the car behind you.

Let him be, you can relax quietly confident that if you really really wanted to, there would be no contest and that he would soon become a very distant memory and shortly history.
