Anybody know anything about the brakes on a Porsche?

I have a 1985 Porsche 911 Targa(not a turbo). The brake lights only come on when the brake pedal is pressed all the way to the floor, so you have to be pretty much stopped for the lights to come on. For brake fluid if the light goes on you apply the wheel look for leaks.
